Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

1 server and 32 guests. How do I know? Well, waiting 40 minutes for a mediocre mozzarella stick appetizer, I had time to count the guests. There were 4 people cooking in the kitchen, and they finally decided to have one man come out and help. The pizzas came out with the appetizer, and I wish I could say it was worth the wait...... Ok crust, minimal cheap toppings, and flavorless cheese. When I say minimal we ordered half cheese and half pepperoni and we may have gotten 8 pieces of pepperoni on half of a 14" pizza. I hate to write negative reviews, but this restaurant screams poor Managment, and it is going to put them out of business if it was not for tourists like myself. I bet locals stay away, and I recommend to stay away.

Great pizza, if you like pizza without a lot sauce like me then this is a great place to stop by and chow down on buffet. This pizza place is in a big shopping area. My daughter and I were over at Target and my daughter was starving. So, we drove around and she saw this restaurant and decided she wanted pizza. This pizza joint is quite spacious! It has an industrialized look to it, but is made inviting by the pictures & lighting on the walls! I especially liked the "Kissing on VJ Day in New York" picture... a sailor kissing his girlfriend/fiance/bride (not sure which)! ( yelp.com/biz_photos/papa… ) We walked in and were greeted and told we could sit wherever we would like. Then the lady asked us if we wanted to do the lunch buffet. I had no idea there was a lunch buffet! It sounded great, pizza and salad bar. The same lady then asked us which types of pizza we would like and we replied, "Cheese and Supreme". Papa's Lunch Buffet is served daily from 11AM-2PM and costs $7.99. This lady was a really helpful & friendly waitress! She kept clearing our empty plates and asked us if we needed anything. We got our salad, which is unlimited, but we only needed to make one trip. It was pretty much your typical salad bar. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/papa… ) Midway through our salad, we were told that the pizzas were ready. We hopped up and found fresh and hot pizzas... cheese and supreme! ( yelp.com/biz_photos/papa… ) It really was a nice personal touch to have the exact pizza you prefer waiting there for you! They had 2 other pizzas ready as well. Plus, they had some cheesy breadsticks! Mmmm! The pizzas were very, very, very yummy! I enjoyed the crust, which is the part I normally leave behind. This is New York Style Pizza, which has a thin crust. They have great sauces and fresh toppings and the pizzas were so delicious! They have some pizzas named after celebrities, like Rocky Marciano, Sophia Loren, Al Pacino, & Frank Sinatra. If you want more than pizza or more with your pizza, they serve pastas, calzones, strombolis, and subs. You can also get wings, salads, & mozzarella sticks. And, if you aren't yet full, they even have desserts! They offer - Tiramisu, New York Style Cheesecake, Key Lime Pie, and Chocolate Cream Pie. We were happily stuffed after the lunch buffet, so we didn't get a chance to try any of the desserts. When I come back to this area, I will most certainly be coming for lunch again! I'm pretty sure my daughter will come without me, since she's now living nearby! sniff, sniff

Desperately needing pizza after a week of grilling out, Papa's was recommended for great tasting pizza. We decided to order carry out instead of wait for delivery. Our large pepperoni & small cheese were ready in about 20 minutes. Once we got it back to our condo, we dug in. THIS is the best pizza around, on and near the beach!! I am use to NY Style and this is the closest to NY you can get. I totally agree with previous reviewer about the cheese. It is real and not an oily mess of glob. Super chewy cheese with a mildly sweet sauce on a crunchy bottom:soft top crust. True perfection! Service was super friendly (even when my cell kept breaking up). This place was definitely worth the drive!

Strange experience with this place. Sunburned and bit tipsy from a day on the Gulf Shores beach, we decided to ask the yelp gods where one could order a decent pizza while visiting this beach town. 4 and half stars lead us here and I called papas around 4pm. I was informed that delivery did not begin until 5pm. Ok. Called back at 4:45, as we were heading back out to the sand and wanted to be first in line for delivery. I was then informed that they were not sure the delivery guy was even coming and was asked to call back at 5pm again. *Here is where I should have called dominos, but I wanted to keep it local. I called back at 5:08 (to give delivery guy time to clock in and such). Was then informed that it would be a 2 HOUR WAIT for delivery. What?! How many people placed orders in 8 minutes!!!!?? I asked. Really, I asked the manager this. He told me if I hurried, he could get it to me in 1 hour. I went along, as I already had a huge order prepared. Then, it was delivered in about 35 minutes. Strange... Frank Sinatra pizza ok in a cicis pizza kinda way. Plus drunk people aren't too picky when it comes to pizza. Pass on all pastas. Alfredo and baked spaghetti has no flavor and was all clumped together. Cheesecake tasted like a Cisco frozen delight for sure. To be fair, I don't think delivery is their bread and butter and all reviews talk about a great dine in experience. A tip, papa: don't advertise delivery on yelp...it only confuses buzzed beach goers in your fair city :)

Very good pizza! Very good service! Reasonable prices! You can't beat it!!! We got 3 XL pizzas for 10 men and we had a couple slices left over. We got a George Steinbrenner, an Al Capone, and a Frank Sinatra. All 3 were delicious. I will definitely be back.
(5)Scott M.
This place is awesome! Pizza was delicious and the baked spaghetti and meatballs was outstanding. You can tell it's made fresh. Soooo good! Highly recommend!!
(5)Karen D.
Best pizza I've had in a long time. Great price, fast service and friendly service. We had a pepperoni pizza and you could definitely taste the freshness of the crust and the pizza was not greasy at all.
(5)Joi D.
Pizza is good. Service this year compared to last completely sucks! Ordered last week and they lost the pick up order. Never took our name over the phone. Tried again tonight because we really like the pizza and try to get on vacation. Called 3 times no answer. Drove over...they were out of extra larges. How does a pizza place run out? We were told this after standing at counter for 5 minutes and being ignored. phone was ringing off the hook still and no one answered. This was our last night in GS and has totally made me mad.
(1)Laura W.
Hungry? Don't bother. We have been waiting for 2 hours, after being told it would take 45 minutes. No idea how the pizza is; definitely don't get delivery if you ever want to eat.
(1)Bob G.
Very cool little place. Not too touristy. We ordered spaghetti and meatballs, and a stromboli. Portion sizes were adequate. The salad bar was very nice... much of the items on the salad bar are homemade. The bacon bits are actually shredded bacon from real bacon strips. The service, unexpectedly, was some of the best I've seen at any place. Greeted quickly, served drinks in a few seconds, order taken promptly, food served 8 to 10 minutes later, but above all, the staff was friendly and incredibly attentive. We were waited on by a guy named Turner. A young guy with a great personality, friendly, and very helpful. This was our first visit to Papa's Pizza, but it certainly won't be our last.
(5)Kate C.
I went here once. I liked my food but the wait was ridiculous. I would like to go back and give this place another shot.
(2)Trisha G.
Very good pizza!! We had the John Wayne and Johnny Rocco pizzas, along with the garlic knots. All very tasty! Reasonably priced, and everything was ready waiting on us when we arrived to pick it up! Would definitely recommend!
(5)Smarty M.
I have been coming to Gulf Shore for at least 30 years. Being from Miami I have had good New York style pizza. This pizza is the best I have had in Gulf Shore and matches the pizza I have had in Miami. The service was great and didn't have to wait long. The price is reasonable. The atmosphere is causal and family friendly. Very clean. Location is easy to get to. Plenty of free parking available. Movie theater is close. I have never written a review but felt that Papa's Pizza deserved my support. I hope others enjoy the pizza as much as I did and supports Papa's pizza so they will be around for a long time.
(5)Laura B.
Excellent Pizza! Great crust! Wonderful staff and service. Easy parking, good place for kids and groups.
(5)Melissa D.
Definitely can tell they changed ownership. The food has gone down hill. Pizza almost seems raw sometimes. The service is also subpar. We've had a to go order three different occasions, and every time they messed it up - leaving us to wait.
(2)Jason R.
Super friendly to start with. A real brick oven is harder to find than a 4 leaf clover. And they have one!! Kind of an "old fashioned" pizza parlor in a beach community. Excellent. Highly recommend.
(5)AJ K.
As a native New Yorker transplanted in the South, I have to say this place is a goldmine! Closest thing to REAL pizza that I've had since leaving home. Its hard to get the crust just right but its almost spot on, and most pizza places don't recognize the importance of quality cheese... They figure the sauce is more important than anything, which is so not the case. The sauce here was pretty decent, but the cheese is awesome and flavorful as it should be. The garlic knots were good too. The cashier was very friendly and pleasant, which was just another added bonus. I highly recommend giving this place a try; if you're disappointed afterwards, you must've spent too much of your life eating frozen pizza!
(5)Sean O.
Really good strombolies. Pretty fast service!! Salad bar is really good and worth coming just for it. Highly recommend this place. Only drawback is that you have to bring your own beer..... Our server Katie was phenomenal!!!!!
(4)Crystal R.
Wow, this place was so bad, I thought we might be on a hidden camera show or something. No such luck. Came in, not busy and there were dirty tables everywhere, although we did find a place to sit with our family of 6. Many of us went straight to the salad bar but it was mostly empty. There was clearly no one actually working the salad bar. Got minimal salads. When the lady came to bring our waters, we ordered pizza, and I asked if they were going to be refilling the salad bar soon. She was very nice and said they were working on it. But they weren't. It was nearly comical to watch how this place was run...or not run, actually. Bunch of people back in the kitchen standing around. No one had a clear job. Someone would come out to the dining room, glance around, walk straight by the super dirty salad bar, not wipe it down or refill anything. Then walk by three filthy tables and not clear them. Then walk back into the kitchen EMPTY HANDED!! Who manages this place???? This happened over and over and over as we waited 45 minutes for our 2 pizzas. Sad, since the pizza was decent. Need restaurant impossible!!
(1)Tabi H.
Due to the wonderful reviews on here, we drove 10 miles, past 6 other pizza places to eat here. We arrived 45 before close and they took us in and served us like they had all the time in the world for us. Their service is prompt, friendly, and very attentive. The Cheesy Garlic Knots and Al Pacino Pizza were outstanding! They are very generous with their ingredients and portions! The one thing that sets this place apart to me is found in their sauce; it isn't too sweet and has layers of flavor. Delicious!
(5)Katy G.
I was really excited to come here! Friendly service and great pizza? You can't beat that! However, the friendly service wasn't so friendly. The pizza was really good, which is why I gave it three stars. I would go back to give them a second chance. The John Wayne pizza and cheesy knots are great!
(3)Mike L.
I love this place. The employees are all super friendly and the pizza is great. I like the the salad bar also. I highly recommend this great restaurant.
(5)Cole Y.
Been here for lunch a few times. The pizza buffet is not a bad price, and the pizza is way better than going to a place like CiCi's.
(4)iza s.
pretty good! last year me and my husband decided to try it out and got absolutely no service for almost an hour.. this year we decided to try their lunch buffet of pizza and salad.. we were one of the first ones there and got to order the first pies they made.. it was delicious! the salad was great, croutons a little too salty but good.. and the pizza? soo good! it's hit or miss with BBQ pizzas, but the jack Johnson was perfect! just the right amount of sauce, not too sweet with chicken, onions, and bacon.. the service was prompt, polite, and very attentive.. there were about 7 tables occupied while we were there and the waitress greeted and took care of all of them as well as us.. I've never felt so welcome and taken care of...

Tried Papa's while vacationing with a group of teenagers. The pizza was great, the service was good, facility new and clean, and prices reasonable. No gimmicks. I'll certainly return when we visit the area again.

Super chewy cheese with a mildly sweet sauce on a crunchy bottom:soft top crust. True perfection! Service was super friendly (even when my cell kept breaking up). This place was definitely worth the drive!

Small salad bar but had everything I like and very friendly staff that was really helpful when it cone to local recommendations on things to do in gulf shores. Like always get their early bypass the crowd and enjoy! Hey if your here as always visit reelattraction.com let's fish!

Delicious!

Excellent Pizza! Great crust! Wonderful staff and service. Easy parking, good place for kids and groups.

Definitely can tell they changed ownership. The food has gone down hill. Pizza almost seems raw sometimes. The service is also subpar. We've had a to go order three different occasions, and every time they messed it up - leaving us to wait.

Super friendly to start with. A real brick oven is harder to find than a 4 leaf clover. And they have one!! Kind of an "old fashioned" pizza parlor in a beach community. Excellent. Highly recommend.

Really good strombolies. Pretty fast service!! Salad bar is really good and worth coming just for it. Highly recommend this place. Only drawback is that you have to bring your own beer..... Our server Katie was phenomenal!!!!!

This place is awesome! Pizza was delicious and the baked spaghetti and meatballs was outstanding. You can tell it's made fresh. Soooo good! Highly recommend!!

Best pizza I've had in a long time. Great price, fast service and friendly service. We had a pepperoni pizza and you could definitely taste the freshness of the crust and the pizza was not greasy at all.

Hungry? Don't bother. We have been waiting for 2 hours, after being told it would take 45 minutes. No idea how the pizza is; definitely don't get delivery if you ever want to eat.

Very good pizza!! We had the John Wayne and Johnny Rocco pizzas, along with the garlic knots. All very tasty! Reasonably priced, and everything was ready waiting on us when we arrived to pick it up! Would definitely recommend!

I was really excited to come here! Friendly service and great pizza? You can't beat that! However, the friendly service wasn't so friendly. The pizza was really good, which is why I gave it three stars. I would go back to give them a second chance. The John Wayne pizza and cheesy knots are great!

I love this place. The employees are all super friendly and the pizza is great. I like the the salad bar also. I highly recommend this great restaurant.

Been here for lunch a few times. The pizza buffet is not a bad price, and the pizza is way better than going to a place like CiCi's.

pretty good! last year me and my husband decided to try it out and got absolutely no service for almost an hour.. this year we decided to try their lunch buffet of pizza and salad.. we were one of the first ones there and got to order the first pies they made.. it was delicious! the salad was great, croutons a little too salty but good.. and the pizza? soo good! it's hit or miss with BBQ pizzas, but the jack Johnson was perfect! just the right amount of sauce, not too sweet with chicken, onions, and bacon.. the service was prompt, polite, and very attentive.. there were about 7 tables occupied while we were there and the waitress greeted and took care of all of them as well as us.. I've never felt so welcome and taken care of...

Tried Papa's while vacationing with a group of teenagers. The pizza was great, the service was good, facility new and clean, and prices reasonable. No gimmicks. I'll certainly return when we visit the area again.

I went here once. I liked my food but the wait was ridiculous. I would like to go back and give this place another shot.
